Life after loss
Acute stress will not topple you - but on top of chronic stress it can. And today we all live in a chronic stressfull environment.
After loss the body's parasympathetic nervous system goes into overdrive.
After loss the surviver is very likely to suffer a stroke or heart attack themselves in 60 days from the life event. So its quick.
To start with the adrenaline rushes through the adrenal glands and gets us through. Often in a daze, in acute internal pain and in an external dumbness to events carrying on around us. Somehow others expect us to manage a way through it without practical tools. No unbiased ears or shoulders to cry on.
In the western world, we are very poor at managing loss. Yes, we cope but at what cost to the emotions being swallowed inside. The inflammatory markers from cortisol fill our gut and feed our brain, the flight or fight reaction to stress.
And friends and sometimes family want to 'fix you' without by or leave of what you might want. or leave of what you might want.
